Recently, DealerFire staff of the female persuasion decided to take a painting class together for a little girls night out. As part of the class, we had pre-chosen a piece of artwork for inspiration and then were led step by step through the painting process by a seasoned instructor.
As each of us let loose of our inner artist and our masterpieces began to take form, individual creativity and personality was slowly revealed. And while each of us were given the same tools and were shown the same technique, each painting took on its own form.
Some of us were harder on ourselves than others. Some singularly seemed more beautiful than the next. Some skies were more blended and some grasses more lush. A few adventurous souls stepped out of the box and added their own flair or painted something different altogether. At the end of our session, we lined up holding our still-tacky canvases for a series of fun group photos. The next day and as the pictures were posted on Faceboook, I could see what the camera saw; our creations, deeply colored and graphic, popped together – like pieces of a puzzle or chapters of a good story. “They’re better together,” I thought.
Perhaps this came to mind because we, as a company, are welcoming new faces, new talent and new technology to our business almost every day. We are expanding our physical reach with a new local building and satellite offices around the country. We have amplified our already strong participation in community, regional and statewide sponsorships and leadership opportunities. Community and culture are a major source of personal and group happiness, support and security.
When we’re happy at work, it often means that our co-workers and we are also a community. When we stand up together – to cheer on our company volleyball team, travel together to national automotive trade shows, run for a cause or toast a friend on his birthday – we feel the bonds of community. Communities are as different as we are as individuals, and we are fortunate to be individually a part of a great one that when put together, becomes even better.
Perhaps however; it came to mind because we, as a company, are on a mission to help our dealership customers break free from templated websites, duplicate content and poor customer service. Because we are a bit rebellious in our approach in fighting for what’s right for our dealers.
So for now, a few of our firefly paintings are peppered throughout the DealerFire office. A few found their way back into our homes. One is hanging on the mantle of corporate housing. All make a bold statement of our community. Whether you’re reading this blog as employee or a guest, you are part of a growing community of people that care about your individuality!
